Frequently asked questions
Is my data safe?
Section titled “Is my data safe?”Yes, and the specifics matter more than the reassurance.
Documents are stored in the European Union, encrypted in transit and at rest, and are not used to train AI models without your explicit consent. Processing happens under a Data Processing Agreement in line with Article 28 GDPR. The list of sub-processors is public and changes to it are notified. Lex is built to respect the professional-secrecy obligations of Law 51/1995 and the lawyers’ deontological code.
Inside the product, separation is structural rather than a setting somebody could get wrong. Everything you see belongs to the organization you are signed into: one firm never sees another firm’s clients, case files or documents. Within your firm, you work with the client records you own, while shared material — contact persons, your firm’s document collections — is available to colleagues whose role includes it.
If your firm wants AI processing to happen on its own hardware rather than in the EU cloud, that is the Super Private option: with a KlusAI Outpost node in the office, the lock in the conversation composer routes a conversation to it, and your questions do not reach a third-party AI provider. Without a node, the toggle reports that the local model is unavailable and the conversation stays on the EU cloud.
How accurate are the AI answers?
Section titled “How accurate are the AI answers?”No AI system guarantees complete accuracy, and Lex does not claim to. What it does is make every answer checkable:
- Answers cite their sources — law articles, decisions, or documents from your own collections — as numbered markers you can open in one click.
- Each answer carries a grounding badge: grounded in binding legislation, grounded in binding case law, based on persuasive sources only, or no sources found with a note saying what was searched.
- When an answer names an article without a clickable citation, Lex either shows you that article’s text (with its consolidation date, and a repeal marker where it applies) or flags the reference as unverified.
- When an answer names a legal provision and nothing was retrieved to support it, Lex says explicitly that it cannot confirm the point from the available sources.
- When it can find no basis at all in the selected documents, it says so instead of producing a plausible article number.
Use Flag as incorrect on any answer that is wrong; you can categorise it as incorrect, a hallucination, outdated, or something else, and add a comment.
The lawyer remains responsible for final verification. See reading an answer critically.
What legislation is included?
Section titled “What legislation is included?”Consolidated Romanian legislation from the Ministry of Justice legislative portal, covering seven codes: the Civil Code, the Code of Civil Procedure, the Criminal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Labour Code, the Fiscal Code and the Code of Fiscal Procedure.
Each is indexed down to article and paragraph, keeping the structural path and the consolidation date, with repealed provisions marked rather than removed and each article deep-linked to its place on the official portal.
Alongside the codes: Constitutional Court decisions, whose full text is
extracted from the PDFs published on ccr.ro and indexed — not merely the listing
summaries — and court case data from portal.just.ro together with Supreme
Court files from the scj.ro archive.
The corpus is refreshed daily, and re-indexing is deliberately throttled so it never
competes with your work, which means a very recent change may take a little while to
become fully searchable. The consolidated text on legislatie.just.ro remains the
authority, which is why every result links there.
Acts outside those seven codes are not part of the indexed corpus. If a question turns on one, upload the text into one of your firm’s collections and it becomes searchable like any other document. Full detail: Legislation and case-law research.
Can I upload my firm’s documents?
Section titled “Can I upload my firm’s documents?”Yes — that is where Lex becomes useful about your practice rather than about Romanian law in general. PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, image and plain-text files are accepted; duplicates are skipped; text is extracted and indexed automatically for both meaning-based and exact-word search.
Documents go into a knowledge base — a collection you choose, and can organise by practice area or by client. They belong to your firm: another firm can never see them, and they are not used to train AI models without your explicit consent. Within your firm, colleagues whose role includes document access can search the same collections, which is what makes shared precedent work.
For one-off questions you can drop a file straight into a conversation without adding it to a collection, and personal data in attachments is replaced with placeholders before the file reaches the AI model — on by default, switchable with the shield in the composer.
How much does it cost?
Section titled “How much does it cost?”Pricing is quoted per firm. Use Request a demo on lex.klusai.com and KlusAI will come back to you with pricing and the current pilot terms — the site commits to a response within 24 hours.
Does Lex replace portal.just.ro?
Section titled “Does Lex replace portal.just.ro?”No. portal.just.ro remains the official source for case information, and Lex
treats it that way: where the two differ, the portal is right.
What Lex adds is organisation and vigilance. Link a case file by its case number and Lex fills in the court, section, object, parties, procedural stage and hearings from the portal, then re-checks the file every morning and records what changed — new hearing, changed hearing, new solution, changed procedural stage — notifying the responsible lawyer and the team, and putting new terms on your calendar. Your clients, deadlines and documents sit next to all of that in one place.
Every case file also offers a link through to the right court’s own page on the
portal, so verifying against the official record is one step away. See
Case files and portal.just.ro.
Can I try before paying?
Section titled “Can I try before paying?”Yes — a trial period is available, with no credit card required.
Lex accounts are created by invitation rather than open self-registration, so a trial starts with a conversation: use Request a demo, and the accounts for your firm are set up from there.
What happens if the AI makes a mistake?
Section titled “What happens if the AI makes a mistake?”Lex is an assistance tool, not a substitute for professional judgement. Responsibility for legal acts, strategy and advice remains with the lawyer, under the professional statute and the deontological code. Lex is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.
The design assumption is that mistakes are possible, which is why answers are sourced rather than asserted, why an unsupported legal reference is flagged instead of passing quietly, and why every answer is labelled as AI-assisted. That reduces the risk of an error reaching a client, a court or a counterparty; it does not eliminate it. Independently verify results and confirm the sources and citations before using them or passing them on.
If you find a wrong answer, flag it — the categories exist so that patterns of error can be found and fixed.
Other things people ask
Section titled “Other things people ask”Can I work in English? Yes. Lex opens in Romanian; the Language panel on your Account page switches to English. That setting also governs the assistant, which replies in your interface language whatever language you write in — unless you explicitly ask for another. Quotations from statutes, decisions and documents keep their original wording either way.
What happens when the court portal is unreachable? The sync reports it, your case file keeps the data it already had, and the next morning run tries again. A file whose initial link never succeeded is a different problem: it is never re-checked, so Lex marks it not portal-linked in the list and notifies the responsible lawyer.
Who gets the deadline reminders? The lawyer who owns a deadline, and — for anything attached to a case file — the responsible lawyer and the team on that file. Reminders default to 1, 3 and 7 days ahead, with a daily digest each morning; both are configurable per person on the Settings page under Calendar.
Can I see a colleague’s diary? The calendar has a Team view covering the deadlines on case files where you are the responsible lawyer or a team member, and an owner filter. It is scoped to your involvement, not to the whole firm.
